Contemporary Geometric Blanket Knitting

One day, I came across this beautiful crochet blanket from Bernat:

My daughters and I all loved this blanket.  However, we all wanted it to be a knitting piece.

Therefore I decided to challenge myself to make it happen.

With carefully calculate the gauge and proportion from the original diagram; this is how my project

turned out:

Construction Concept:

Materials:

Yarns:

Contrast A: Soft & Shiny yarnTM, color Black, 251yd/skein, 2⅔ skeins total.

Contrast B: Lion Brand Heartland yarn, color Mammoth Cave, 251yd/skein, 2½ skeins total.

Contrast C: Soft & Shiny yarnTM, color Ice Coffee, 311yd/skein, 1⅔ skeins total.

Needle: #8, 46 inches circular needle

Size:

It really depends on the needle size, types of the yarns, and how big I want this blanket to be.

My blanket turns out to be 57”x120” (unblocked).

4 Borders:

Before starting to knit, I thought about how I wanted my 4-side borders to be.  After carefully research,

I decided to use the following methods to make all side borders look the same:

Cast on border: Chinese waitress cast on stitches.

Bind off border: Chinese waitress bind off stitches.

Right and left side borders: Double edges stitches.

Every row: With yarn in back, slip the 1st stitch knitwise.  Knit the 2nd stitch.

With yarn in front, slip the last 2nd stitch purlwise.  Purl the last stitch.

Blanket body:

I decided to use garter stitches with Intarsia knitting for this blanket.  Because I liked the elasticity

from the garter stitch knitting, so I decided not to block this blanket after completion.
